Rescued from Street trading, Redirected to Purpose: Oluwaseun’s Story
Israel Oluwaseun is a young boy standing at a critical crossroads, one that could have determined the course of his entire future. Having lost his father, Oluwaseun is being raised by his mother, a hardworking trader who struggles daily to provide for the family.
With the weight of financial hardship pressing heavily on her, she began to consider a difficult decision to withdraw Oluwaseun from school and have him join her in street trading. It was not a decision made lightly, but one driven by survival. For many families in similar situations, education becomes a luxury they can no longer afford.

This moment could have marked the end of Oluwaseun’s education and the beginning of a life on the streets. A life filled with uncertainty, exposure to risks, and limited opportunities for growth.
But Oluwaseun’s story did not end there.
Through CLEP’s timely intervention, a new path has been opened for him. Instead of being pushed into child labour, Oluwaseun is now supported to remain in school, protected, guided, and given the opportunity to build a future beyond immediate survival.
Oluwaseun is a focused and determined child with a quiet eagerness to learn. Since coming under CLEP’s care and supervision, alongside guidance from his local school, he has begun to settle more confidently into his studies.
In mathematics, he is learning to think through problems step by step, gradually building both skill and confidence. In his foreign language classes, he shows curiosity and excitement, discovering new ways to express himself and connect with the world beyond his immediate environment.
He also engages actively in art and creative projects, where he is able to explore his imagination and express his thoughts freely. These moments of creativity are not just activities they are glimpses of the possibilities that lie ahead for him when given the right support.
Beyond academics, CLEP’s intervention is restoring hope not only for Oluwaseun but also for his mother. What once felt like an impossible situation is now a story of relief and renewed belief that her son can stay in school and pursue a better future.
Oluwaseun’s journey is a powerful reminder of how close many children are to losing access to education. It takes just one intervention to change that path to move a child from the streets back into the classroom, from survival into purpose.
Today, Oluwaseun is no longer preparing for a life of street trading. He is preparing for a future filled with opportunity, growth, and dignity.
