Interrupted by Loss, Carried by Hope: Emmanuel’s Story

Ogar Emmanuel is a young boy whose life has recently been shaken by a painful loss. His father passed away not long ago, leaving a deep emotional gap in the family and placing a heavy burden on his mother, who now carries the responsibility of raising the children alone.

At the time CLEP visited their home in Lagos, Emmanuel was away, he had traveled to attend his father’s funeral. It was a moment that reflected the reality of what he and his family are going through: grief, uncertainty, and the sudden weight of life changing too quickly.

That day, in his absence, Emmanuel’s sister stood in for him and received the CLEP scholarship on his behalf. It was a powerful and emotional moment, one that symbolized not just support for a child, but hope for an entire family navigating loss.

Emmanuel now lives with his mother, who is doing everything she can to hold the family together despite serious financial challenges. With limited resources, the risk of children in such situations is often the same, they are pushed into child labour to support the household. This is a reality CLEP is deeply committed to preventing.

CLEP does not want to see Emmanuel become another child forced to trade his education for survival. Instead, we believe his story can take a different path, one where he is supported, protected, and given the opportunity to learn, grow, and rebuild his future.

Even in the face of loss, Emmanuel is known to be a determined and hopeful child. With the right support system, he has the potential to rise above his current situation. Through CLEP’s provision and supervision, alongside guidance from his local school, Emmanuel is being given a chance to stay in school and continue his development.

Academically, children like Emmanuel often find stability through education, especially during difficult seasons. With consistent support, he will be able to focus on his studies, gaining confidence in subjects like mathematics, developing communication skills through language learning, and expressing himself through creative activities guided by his teachers and CLEP mentors.

More than academics, this support provides something deeper, a sense of security, belonging, and hope. It tells Emmanuel that even in the midst of loss, he is not alone.

Emmanuel’s story is still unfolding. It is a story of grief, but also of intervention. A story of vulnerability, but also of possibility. With the right support, this difficult chapter can become the foundation of a stronger future.

Through your support, Emmanuel is being protected from becoming a victim of circumstance, and is instead being given the chance to become a young boy with purpose, dignity, and hope.
